“To implement programmes to deliver relief from hunger, pain, or abuse, dealing with not only the symptoms but the causes of such, through physical On Street Programmes, Awareness Campaigns,
Educational Programmes, and relationships with other likeminded organizations, to provide nurture and training to the urban and rural poor and those that are in fear or in need, regardless of race, gender, religion, or culture”.
Reach Out is a non religious, non political, Community Action Group, which consists of volunteers working with the rural, and the urban poor in Malaysia.
From their experiences of working with charitable organisations in Kuala Lumpur, a group of volunteers initiated the vision of establishing teams in Malaysia to feed, shelter and rehabilitate the
homeless and urban/rural poor, and to understand, and raise awareness of the causes of such and in the long term, to reduce the flow of poverty by providing a place of training, assistance, and employment opportunities to help make the poor employable and for them to re-enter society.
Reach Out was formed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in April, 2008 and is a registered NGO and charity.
The organizations volunteers have established their unique vision to deliver this humanitarian need, incorporating its fundamental core principle, that volunteers of all races and religions partake in assisting those who at this time can not assist themselves.
Volunteers include people of all ages, cultures, and walks of life, and represent all strata’s of society.
From its inception this group has offered Halal food, drinks, clothing, and basic medical first aid to those in Malaysia.
On each operating day Reach Out volunteers walk the streets of Malaysia seeking out those who need assistance to make it through another day.
Reach Out feeds approx. 700 weekly.
Operations also includes humanitarian assistance in other areas outside of Kuala Lumpur, and to raise awareness of the causes of rural and urban poverty through educational briefings at schools
and to assist schools in establishing their own community programmes, taking part in exhibitions and social awareness events, training and assisting corporate organizations in establishing their own Community Responsibility Programmes.
Reach Out is often a First Responder to areas of natural disasters in Malaysia and overseas.
As a result of our work we have established that there is a need to treat not just the symptom (hunger) but the cause (poverty). It is clear that there are people willing and able to re enter society if given the opportunity – they just need to be shown the way.
The poor do not want charity they need inspiration.
We distribute meals to those in need everyday.
